Clifford L. Warner was born in Alto, Michigan on March 29, 1895, studied at the Detroit Institute of Art, served overseas
in World War I, and was an accomplished artist and photographer before settling in California. He lived in Hollywood and San
Francisco before moving to the Mother Lode in 1932, where he lived in Nevada City and Sonora. Warner married a woman named
Marie in 1936, who subsequently became institutionalized and received shock treatment after almost murdering someone. In poor
health toward the end of his life, Warner died, possibly in Hollywood, on May 20, 1955.
